Zinc oxide is the boring hero of this entire ingredient list — it's the mineral UV filter doing the actual work behind every brightening, anti-aging, or pigment-fading claim you've paid for elsewhere. Skip it, and most of those other products stop working the way you'd expect.

For deeper skin tones, tinted mineral sunscreens with iron oxides are especially relevant because visible light can worsen melasma and pigmentation.

Zinc oxide is FDA-recognized as GRASE (generally recognized as safe and effective) with no concentration limit, and is the only single sunscreen ingredient providing full broad-spectrum UVA/UVB coverage including UVA1.
